The Dagara Music Centre

In April/May this year I visited Accra, Ghana, for a family wedding. The above video was taken during an afternoon visit to Bernard Woma’s Dagara Music Centre, the site that Ignacio Agrimbau visited last year for his lessons in Dagara gyil (see his excellent article here) which, by a strange coincidence of geography, is only 10km from my father-in-law’s house. Funny how life works out.

Mr. Woma himself wasn’t around, but I was treated to a djembe lesson and the above display of Jerome Balsab’s prowess on the xylophone. This gyil stuff is pretty addictive.
